Gilat Satellite Networks has secured a $10 million contract to supply a customised Earth observation system, marking a further expansion of its defence technology portfolio beyond satellite communications.
The Israeli group said that its Gilat DataPath subsidiary had been chosen to deliver the system within the next 12 months.
The contract underscores Gilat’s push into geospatial intelligence, an area increasingly in demand as governments seek faster, more resilient data for security, humanitarian, and emergency response operations.
The solution will use satellites carrying a mix of sensors to provide real-time intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and situational awareness. Gilat said the system includes a transportable direct downlink terminal designed to give users in remote areas secure, rapid access to Earth observation data.
Nicole Robinson, President of Gilat DataPath, said the award reflected confidence in the company’s ability to adapt its long-standing satellite communications terminals for new defence uses. “Nations today rely on resilient, mission-tailored insights and intelligence as they seek to understand the security environment, humanitarian assistance, and first responder efforts,” she said. “We are proud to support our customer’s mission, and continue broadening our offerings.”
Gilat, which is listed in New York and Tel Aviv, develops satellite networking technology for commercial and defence clients. Its businesses include Wavestream, DataPath, and Stellar Blu, and the company supports multi-orbit constellations, Very High Throughput Satellites, and Software-Defined Satellites.
