Energous has secured regulatory approval in the European Union for its PowerBridge Pro wireless power transmitter, clearing the way for commercial deployment across EU member states and the UK.
The US-listed wireless power specialist said that the certification brings its higher-powered PowerBridge Pro into line with the previously approved PowerBridge Lite, completing its EU-certified product portfolio. The approval allows the company to market and deploy the system without country-specific restrictions across Europe.
PowerBridge Pro delivers up to 2W of conducted power with an effective isotropic radiated power of 39.5 dBi, extending the range and coverage of Energous’ over-the-air wireless charging technology. The system has been approved for operation across both the lower and upper frequency bands used in Europe, at 865 MHz and 918 MHz.
Mallorie Burak, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Energous, said the certification marked an important step in the company’s international expansion, following deployments with large enterprise customers in the US. She said the approval would allow European companies to scale wireless power infrastructure across supply chains and industrial operations.
The certification process included safety testing, electromagnetic compatibility assessments, and conducted and radiated emissions measurements, after which the product was granted CE marking for sale throughout the EU.
Energous positions its technology as an alternative to batteries and wired power for so-called ambient internet-of-things applications, such as asset tracking, cold-chain monitoring, fleet management, and environmental sensing. The company argues that higher-powered transmitters such as PowerBridge Pro can support maintenance-free, continuously powered devices over longer distances.
