Smart City Expo USA has announced that its 2024 conference will take place in New York City on the 22nd-23rd of May at Pier 36, supported by the city. The New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser, and the CEO of New York Economic Development Corporation, Andrew Kimball, are slated to deliver speeches at the event.
The conference, themed “The Future is Here”, is organised by the City of New York, the African American Mayors Association (AAMA), the National League of Cities (NLC), Fira Barcelona International, and Smart City Expo World Congress. It aims to spotlight “smart” technologies and innovations in infrastructure, sustainability, and transportation, particularly in preparation for the 16 cities across North America hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mayor Adams expressed his enthusiasm about hosting Smart City Expo USA, highlighting New York City’s role as a leader in creating resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities for the future. The Expo will feature panels, forums, workshops, and demonstrations from over 100 speakers and leading companies, focusing on transforming cities through innovative and equitable technologies.
Aarti Tandon, CEO of Smart City Expo USA, emphasised the unique opportunity the 2026 FIFA World Cup presents for economic development and the creation of smart, inclusive cities for the 21st century. Andrew Kimball, President & CEO of NYCEDC, highlighted New York City’s emergence as a hub for tech, climate, and life sciences, looking forward to showcasing this progress.
New York City’s Chief Technology Officer, Matthew Fraser, noted the conference as a prime opportunity to showcase the city’s use of advanced technologies for economic growth and public benefit. Additionally, Ricard Zapatero, CEO of Fira Barcelona, and Steven L. Reed, Vice President of the African American Mayors Association and Mayor of Montgomery, voiced their support for the Expo’s role in advancing smart city practices and inclusive economic development.
David Sander, President of the National League of Cities, highlighted the Expo’s importance for local governments to address modern challenges with innovative solutions. The event aligns with the Adams administration’s efforts through the Office of Technology and Innovation to position New York City at the forefront of technological advancement, with initiatives like Big Apple Connect, MyCity, the Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, and the NYC Smart City Testbed Program.
