Edgecore Networks announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with Morse Micro by choosing its second generation MM8108 Wi-Fi HaLow SoC as the core of its next-generation long-range, low-power connectivity solutions. This move emphasises Edgecore’s long-term commitment to Wi-Fi HaLow and marks a new chapter in its collaboration with Morse Micro.
Edgecore was one of the first enterprise networking vendors to adopt Wi-Fi HaLow technology, introducing its first Wi-Fi HaLow-enabled access point, the EAP112, in early 2024. Compact yet versatile, the EAP112 integrates Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi HaLow, 4G LTE, BLE, Zigbee, and Thread. This router is purpose-built for outdoor and challenging environments and is engineered to meet the accelerating demands of a wide range of IoT applications.
Over the past year, the EAP112 has received strong interest and evaluation requests from industries such as smart agriculture, building security, MDUs (multi-dwelling units), hospitality, and manufacturing. As awareness grows around Wi-Fi HaLow’s superior coverage and signal penetration capabilities, Edgecore expects to see rising demand across even more applications – including warehousing and logistics, mining operations, and industrial environments.
To support this momentum, Edgecore has enhanced its ecCLOUD platform to offer centralised remote management for Wi-Fi HaLow-enabled devices, such as cameras, door locks, and sensors. This allows customers to efficiently deploy and maintain smart environments at scale.
To deliver higher-performance Wi-Fi HaLow solutions, Edgecore has partnered with Morse Micro to adopt its flagship MM8108 SoC, which combines industry-leading power efficiency and RF performance with full support for the latest Wi-Fi HaLow features, including:
- IEEE 802.11ah compliance, operating in license-exempt 850–950 MHz sub-1 GHz bands
- Data rates up to 43.33 Mbps (MCS9 @ 8MHz with 256-QAM)
- Integrated high-efficiency PA, delivering up to 26dBm (400mW) for long-range transmission
- Ultra-low power operation, well suited for battery-powered IoT devices with extended sleep and fast wake-up cycles
- WPA3 security with SAE and GCMP for robust link-layer protection
- Flexible host interfaces including USB 2.0, SDIO 2.0, and SPI
- Support for STA and AP roles, with SoftMAC or FullMAC options
- Compact 5 × 5mm BGA package for minimal footprint and modular designs
“Edgecore is fully committed to advancing Wi-Fi HaLow as a cornerstone of intelligent connectivity,” said TengTai Hsu, VP of Edgecore Networks. “Integrating the MM8108 into our portfolio strengthens our roadmap with enhanced performance, energy efficiency, and scalability across IoT applications.”
“Edgecore’s decision to anchor its next-gen IoT solutions to our MM8108 SoC is a powerful validation of Wi-Fi HaLow’s unique value across industrial and enterprise applications,” said Michael De Nil, CEO of Morse Micro. “This partnership validates that Wi-Fi HaLow is ready for mainstream deployment. With Edgecore’s visionary roadmap and Morse Micro’s world-class Wi-Fi HaLow silicon, we’re accelerating the shift to smarter, more connected environments. Together, we’re unlocking a new era of long-range connectivity with the throughput and reliability of today’s data-driven IoT deployments demand.”
As Wi-Fi HaLow gains global traction, Edgecore remains focused on building a future-ready, multi-protocol architecture that combines Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi HaLow, Matter, BLE, and more—delivering resilient, wide-area IoT connectivity for smart buildings, smart spaces, and beyond.
