The Product Journey (Supply Chain Transformed: Episode 2)

In Episode 2 of Digi-Key’s ‘Supply Chain Transformed’, we follow the product journey. This delves into the role of transportation in the supply chain, one which underpins production and distribution on a global scale.

Digital transformation has pushed forward many aspects of the supply chain. Matt Largis, Manager, Order Fulfilment, Digi-Key discusses the way that transitory systems have developed over the past decade. He recalls the shift away from conventional methods that use masses of manpower and rely on people physically moving products themselves.

Radio-frequency identification (RFIDs) are commonplace in systems. They serve a wide range of purposes and automate processing. As labour is reduced, productivity is simultaneously increased. This is one of two integral functions that logistics companies seek to fulfil. The other is driving sustainability, although arguably the two are intrinsically linked.

Colm Slattery, Engineer, ADI, predicts that industry will see a rise in the adoption of sensing technologies in logistics equipment. He anticipates that uptake will become a likely trend of the future.
