OQ Technology and o2 Telefónica collaborate for global 5G IoT connectivity

OQ Technology has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with o2 Telefónica, marking a significant step towards global IoT satellite connectivity.

Starting from the second quarter of 2024, o2 Telefónica plans to launch global 5G roaming services, enabling the deployment of Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) solutions on a worldwide scale. This partnership aims to provide businesses with robust IoT services, reaching areas that were previously challenging to connect.

OQ Technology’s satellite network will be integrated with Telefónica IPX Cloud and Kite, o2 Telefónica’s renowned IoT connectivity management platform. This integration will offer business customers real-time monitoring and global control of SIM cards.

The collaboration between OQ Technology and o2 Telefónica will result in a hybrid mobile satellite connectivity service, ensuring global IoT network coverage. The service will securely transmit data to customers, necessitating only a Service-Level Agreement (SLA) with o2 Telefónica.

This satellite connectivity is set to revolutionise IoT applications, particularly in regions where terrestrial networks are limited. It will enable the connection of stationary IoT devices, such as agricultural sensors in remote areas, and support IoT applications across global maritime regions.

In early 2024, Telefónica’s Kite platform is expected to launch “IoT Data Ready.” This feature will streamline NB-IoT data processing and serve as an intermediary for traditional IT systems, further simplifying the integration and management of IoT data.
