$25,000 engineering challenge to accelerate low-carbon plastics economy

Wevolver, in partnership with Growth Garage, the business accelerator from Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, Mitsubishi Chemical Europe, and  Mitsubishi Chemical Methacrylates launch the Circular Economy Challenge. Winners receive $25,000 in manufacturing and business support.

The circular economy decouples economic activity from the consumption of finite resources. It is a resilient closed-loop system that leverages innovation to eliminate waste and circulate materials that has a positive impact on the well-being of people, society, and planet Earth.

Mechanical and/or chemical recycling is key to producing sustainable thermoplastic polymers, minimising landfills, closing the loop, and facilitating the implementation of the Circular Economy.

The challenge calls upon innovators, engineers, and designers to devise inventive, original ideas that can solve real-world problems in two key areas: recycling technology and parts and products for the circular economy.

Innovators from across the world will have the opportunity to showcase their groundbreaking ideas with Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials and its network.  The winners of the challenge will be invited to participate in a pilot program with Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials to bring their proof of concept from prototype into production to the value of $25,000.

“What has been a massive plus is that MCAM wanted to help us develop the hardware, which can be both challenging and expensive. That’s what makes this competition unique and sets it apart,” said Michael Deloyer, Delson Aeronautics and previous challenge winner.

“MCAM is providing us with materials, manufacturing and supply chain expertise, as well as initial production runs of our innovative device. Unlike all the other accelerators and competitions that we’ve seen, MCAM offers something that’s genuinely different,” said Lorenzo Conti, Founder and Managing Director, Crover and Growth Garage 3D Printing Challenge winner.

The Circular Economy Challenge is now underway.  Those interested in participating or learning more can visit Wevolver.com.
