Rohde & Schwarz and Autotalks have joined forces to confirm the capabilities of the world’s first 5G-V2X chipset using the advanced features of the R&S CMP180 radiocommunication tester. Autotalks, a leading provider of V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication solutions, leveraged Rohde & Schwarz’s testing expertise and equipment to validate the performance of its third-generation V2X chipset, TEKTON3 and SECTON3, showcasing the latest 5G-V2X technology. This partnership will be highlighted with a joint presentation of a 5G-V2X test setup at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona.
This collaboration underscores the commitment of both Rohde & Schwarz, a German electronics company, and Autotalks, an Israeli semiconductor firm, to ensuring the successful operation of 5G-V2X technology. This initiative is pivotal for advancing vehicle communication technologies and furthering the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving.
The R&S CMP180 radiocommunication test platform, renowned for its non-signalling testing capabilities for both cellular and non-cellular technologies, has been enhanced with 5G-V2X testing functionality. This addition enables comprehensive testing of Autotalks’ chipset capabilities using a singular device. Equipped with dual analysers, generators, and multiple RF ports, the R&S CMP180 facilitates simultaneous testing across various technologies, making it an ideal choice for R&D and mass production environments.
Autotalks’ TEKTON3 and SECTON3 chipsets stand out as the first to support all four V2X sidelink communication standards, including LTE-V2X, IEEE 802.11p (DSRC), the new 5G-V2X, and 802.11bd, with the unique capability of concurrent operation across different radio technologies. This feature enables the integration of 5G-V2X alongside existing technologies, catering especially to markets like Europe where 5G-V2X is set to debut alongside DSRC.
5G-V2X technology is essential for enhancing road traffic communication, enabling direct, fast, and reliable exchanges between vehicles, infrastructure, and pedestrians. It supports higher order modulation and group communication, facilitating advanced applications such as cooperative maneuvers and sensor data sharing.
Christoph Pointner, Senior Vice President of Mobile Radio Testers at Rohde & Schwarz, highlighted the mutual benefits of their collaboration with Autotalks, noting its role in validating solutions, providing a reliable reference for customers, and speeding up the deployment of 5G-V2X technology.
Amos Freund, Vice President of R&D at Autotalks, emphasised the importance of validation in the product development cycle and the role of their partnership in advancing 5G-V2X technology for the market. He expressed pride in testing their third-generation chipset, the first of its kind, with Rohde & Schwarz.
The 5G-V2X test setup, featuring the R&S CMP180 and Autotalks’ third-generation chipset, will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2024 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, located in hall 5, booth 5A80.
