LoRa Alliance welcomes Beecham report into LoRaWAN

LoRa Alliance welcomed recent report from Beecham Research into LoRaWAN

The LoRa Alliance, a global association of companies backing the LoRaWAN standard for IoT LPWANs, recently announced that market research company Beecham Research published a comprehensive report highlighting LoRaWAN as the leading networking technology for smart cities.

The report, titled ‘Leveraging LoRaWAN for Smart Cities: Cost Effective, Scalable, Sustainable Connectivity’ examines the increasing significance of connectivity in urban settings – a core component of smart cities – and underscores how LoRaWAN offers a robust, economical and efficient infrastructure.

“Rising demand for smart city solutions is being driven by urbanisation and the necessity for sustainable development,” said Alper Yegin, CEO of the LoRa Alliance. “As cities encounter challenges such as pollution, traffic congestion, waste management and energy efficiency, the adoption of IoT technologies powered by LoRaWAN can facilitate improved resource management and enhance the quality of life for residents. We look forward to showcasing the breadth and depth of LoRaWAN solutions for cities and how they support urban innovation at the upcoming SCEWC.”

At the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) the LoRa Alliance will bring the Beecham report to life, showcasing LoRaWAN deployments and how the technlogy is used in the latest urban solutions.

The research included in the report lays out LoRaWAN’s primary advantages, which includes its long-range capabilities, low power consumption and cost-effectiveness. These benefits render it an optimal choice for cities aiming to enhance their infrastructure while effectively managing operational costs. Additionally, the report highlights how LoRaWAN’s capacity to support a diverse range of devices and sensors is essential for the successful implementation of smart-city initiatives.

“As municipalities continue to explore digital transformation strategies, LoRaWAN is becoming an essential component in the evolution of smarter urban environments,” said Robin Duke-Woolley, CEO and Chief Analyst of Beecham Research. “This report seeks to provide clear insights for city planners, technology providers and policymakers on the increasingly broad range of areas where LoRaWAN is already being used in urban environments in all regions worldwide. The potential is very large.”
