Fibocom launches 5G RedCap modules for IoT solutions

Fibocom has introduced its 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) modules designed for 5G IoT applications, marking a significant step forward in collaboration with industry-leading partners such as Askey, Quanta Computer, and PLANET. These partnerships are instrumental in tailoring the 5G RedCap technology to meet the specific needs of diverse market segments.

Following extensive engineering trials and validations, the integration of Fibocom’s latest 5G RedCap technology into customer devices promises to enhance data transmission reliability and network efficiency across 5G networks. This technological advancement is poised to support a variety of use cases, from residential to industrial connectivity solutions.

At MWC Barcelona 2024, Fibocom unveiled its range of 3GPP R17 compliant 5G RedCap modules, including the FG131, FG132, and FM330 series. These modules are engineered to offer high-performance, cost-efficient solutions to facilitate the transition from 4G to 5G, with scalable form factors to meet diverse market requirements.

Fibocom’s 5G RedCap modules enhance network capabilities, streamline hardware and antenna design, and minimise power consumption. By integrating these modules into devices such as CPEs, ODUs, mobile hotspots, dongles, industrial routers, gateways, and smart vehicle devices, Fibocom enables real-time access to 5G networks. This ensures outstanding data transmission efficiency in complex IoT settings, ideal for optimising business project management.

Askey Computer has partnered with Fibocom to create the NR Lite 5G RedCap Camera, leveraging the sophisticated FG132 module. James Lee, Head of Camera R&D at Askey, shared his excitement about this innovative outdoor camera project, aiming to offer exceptional video quality and services to a global clientele, with additional accessories to enhance functionality.

Quanta Computer’s longstanding collaboration with Fibocom, spanning from LTE Cat1 to 5G solutions, lays a solid foundation for future successes in the burgeoning RedCap market. Steve Cheng, Vice President & General Manager at Quanta Computer, emphasised the partnership’s commitment to delivering unique products and driving wireless communication industry innovation.

PLANET Technology, focusing on 5G infrastructure opportunities, continues to develop a range of 5G NR cellular communication solutions. Kent Kang, Senior Director of Product Engineering Department at PLANET, believes that incorporating Fibocom’s 5G RedCap module technology will enhance PLANET’s 5G solutions, offering high-speed, low-latency, and secure data transmission. This collaboration aims to make the deployment of 5G private networks more flexible and cost-effective.
