AT&T recently announced a milestone as its 5G RedCap technology achieved nationwide coverage, serving over 200 million points of presence (POPs) across the country.

This marks a significant step towards the advancement and expansion of its 5G network, demonstrating a commitment to deliver cutting-edge connectivity solutions at scale.

Its first 5G RedCap data call on a 5G Standalone (5GA) network was achieved two years ago, a milestone the company acknowledged had been part of its success today.

AT&T’s RedCap network provides 5G to the next generation of devices that have less battery consumption, lower costs, and lower bandwidth requirements; such as wearables, XR glasses, IoT products, asset tracking, industrial sensors, fleet management, and other mid-speed computing deviecs.

RedCap devices support a streamlined subset of 5G capabilities engineered for IoT and wearables. They offer advantages such as reduced manufacturing costs and more compact form factors by featuring fewer antennas, lower processing power, less battery consumption, and simplified radio frequency components compared with full 5G devices.

It also announced the certification of the Franklin Wireless RG350, a commercially approved 5G RedCap product on its nationwide network. This mobile hotspot, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X35 5G Modem-RF System, combines 5G with the efficiency and simplicity of RedCap technology in a compact and user-friendly form-factor.
