The LoRa Alliance, a global association supporting the open LoRaWAN standard for IoT low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs), has announced the winners of its annual Contribution Awards during a live ceremony at LoRaWAN Live Munich. These awards recognise individuals and companies for their leadership, service, and contributions to the development and promotion of the LoRaWAN standard over the past year.
“These awards celebrate the relentless efforts and achievements of our distinguished members who drive the continuous innovation and growth of the LoRaWAN standard,” stated Donna Moore, CEO and Chairwoman of the LoRa Alliance. “Over the past year, leaders within the Alliance came together for meaningful collaborations, spearheading industry innovation and advancing the LoRaWAN standard. Their dedication and hard work have catapulted LoRaWAN to new heights within the LPWAN and IoT markets.”
Lifetime Achievement Award
- Olivier Seller, Semtech: As one of the inventors of LoRa technology and Vice-Chair of the Technical Committee, Olivier has significantly contributed to the direction and development of the L2 specification, NetID, and other specifications
- David Tholl, TEKTELIC: David’s dedication to advancing LoRaWAN technology and standards has made it a secure, reliable, and trusted IoT technology
Corporate Award
- Xiamen Milesight IoT: As an early adopter of LoRaWAN technology in China, Milesight has been proactive in promoting LoRaWAN technology to expand the ecosystem and educate the market in various languages
- Seeed Technology: Seeed Studio is committed to making LoRaWAN the global LPWAN standard through advanced technology development and active participation in numerous alliance committees and events
- ZENNER: As an active participant and advocate within the LoRa Alliance, ZENNER holds various leadership roles on several committees
Leadership Award
- Geoffroy de Guillebon, Semtech: For leading the CSMA Task Force and driving the publication of Technical Recommendation 013 on enabling CSMA for LoRaWAN
- Norbert Herbert, Actility: For establishing and chairing the new Walk/Drive/Fly-by Task Force to develop LoRaWAN “last mile” coverage extension
- Telemaco Melia, Echostar Mobile: For his service on the Board of Directors and leadership of the Satellite Task Force to advance the NTN LoRaWAN satellite market
- Daniel Quant, Multi-Tech Systems: For his advocacy of the LoRaWAN standard as a LoRaWAN Ambassador and his leadership roles in the Smart Industry Working Group and the Marketing Committee
- Boris Stöckermann, ZENNER: For his work as Chair of the Smart Cities Working Group, member of the Marketing Committee, and participation in several task forces within the Alliance
Distinguished Service Award
- Ken Lynch, Netmore: For his contributions to LoRaWAN marketing and alignment of Alliance messaging to key market segments through his work on the Marketing Committee and the Utilities and Buildings Working Groups, and as a LoRaWAN ambassador
- Martin von der Ohe, Lacuna Space: For his efforts in the Regulatory Working Group on European harmonisation for satellite in the 860–872MHz band and lobbying CEPT to enable regulation for satellite to SRD communications
- Itziar de la Torre, IMST: For her significant contributions to LoRaWAN Device Certification through training, test solutions, and validation. She provides comprehensive training for the LoRaWAN Certification Test Tool
- Stefan Schweiger, Bechtle: For his advocacy of LoRaWAN and proactive promotion of its benefits to the market
Ecosystem Accelerator Award
This award recognises members who have recruited the most new members to join the Alliance and expand the LoRaWAN ecosystem.

Team Award
This LoRa Alliance team successfully delivered the CSMA Task Force specifications, improving LoRaWAN’s resistance to collision.

This team implemented the LoRaWAN relay feature and performed interoperability tests to validate the specifications and implementations involving the end-device, relay node, and network server, and developed several demos to showcase the technology.

Innovation Award
- Actility and UnaBiz: For their collaboration to drive network convergence, advancing LoRaWAN core networks’ position as the “common core” to serve deployments of mixed radio technologies.

As one of the inventors of LoRa, which started 15 years ago with Cycleo, and then with Semtech, I am amazed to see how the Alliance’s members have created a technology and an ecosystem that allow users to truly benefit from the value of IoT,” said Olivier Seller at Semtech.
